Great Scott! McFly Shoes Record $37,500
The first pair of the popular Nike (NYSE: NKE) Air Mag shoes have sold on auction for a whopping $37,500.
The shoe was the one worn by the Marty McFly character in "Back to the Future II." It was auctioned in Los Angeles last night at the Montalban Theater.
In addition to receiving the shoes, the winner, unknown at this point, will also receive a "plutonium case" to store the shoes.
All of the money will be going to charity to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Fox played the McFly character in the movies. Nike will release 1,500 pairs of the shoe on eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY) and all the proceeds will be donated to the foundation.
At last check, shares of Nike were off 91 cents to $84.42, a loss of 1.07%
