Why Is Plug Power Stock Jumping On Wednesday?

Plug Power Inc (NASDAQ:PLUG) shares are climbing on Wednesday morning. The move follows a sharp decline during Tuesday's session.

Futures Rally Lifts Growth Names

Broader market sentiment is shifting rapidly after the ceasefire news. Nasdaq futures gained 3.45% early Wednesday. S&P 500 futures rose 2.77%.

President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire regarding strikes on Iran. Market sentiment remains optimistic despite Tehran's warnings that the conflict has not officially concluded.

This risk-on tone provides a tailwind for hydrogen growth stocks. Traders are moving back into speculative sectors after Tuesday's defensive posture.

Validating the Courant Project Win

Traders are reassessing the 275-megawatt GenEco PEM electrolyzer award. Plug recently landed this deal for Hy2gen Canada's Courant project. The site aims to produce low-carbon ammonia for mining explosives.

Plug Power is leaning on the Courant win as evidence of growing demand.

The award includes a Front-End Engineering Design contract. Plug calls this one of its largest electrolyzer projects to date.

This deal helps validate Plug's end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem. Bulls view the contract as a potential reset for order momentum. This follows a volatile quarter with a 63-cent loss per share.

Technical Analysis

At $2.68, Plug is trading 17.5% above its 20-day simple moving average (SMA), the stock's average price over the last 20 sessions. It's 23.7% above its 100-day SMA.

The moving average convergence divergence (MACD), a trend/momentum measure, is bullish with the MACD line at 0.0871 above the signal line at 0.0589.

Over the past 12 months, the stock is up 125%, a backward-looking gain that shows how sharp the longer trend has been. Within the 52-week range (69 cents to $4.58).
